Doing my bi-annual tune-up to prepare for smog and this happened. The head snapped with almost no force. I suppose I should be happy it snap while driving and start spinning the rotor. Fortunately, since I hoard 944 parts, I had another extension piece handy, but needless to say I had to drop the little M5 screw for it down into the timing belt abyss TWICE before getting the little jerk to thread. As for the broken bolt, there was a time when I'd feel compelled to get just the perfect Porsche bolt, but those days have passed. 12.9 M4x10 bolt from the hardware store will do just fine, and hopefully take longer to petrify than this one did....

I have sprayed the hell out of that on this engine with WD40.

It’s still soaking until I get back to Soloracer’s shop

It’s been a pain on every car I have worked on my with them sitting so long.

Going to try heat gun when I get to trying to remove it.

After 20+ years of ownership, I've come to expect this I have become a skilled bolt extractor though!

I change the rotor every 2 years for smog (almost a superstition), so really didn't see that one coming. I guess I've been using the same little bolt every time and it finally had enough.... When I have free time, I'll see if I can salvage that extension.

PB Blaster is way better than WD40.

I’m not really a fan of WD-40 but that’s all Erik had in his shop.

I gots the good stuff at my house where the engine is going.

I have collected quite a variety of penetrating products that have “expired “ from my work as everything has a shelf life. But that’s how the defence/aerospace industry goes. Works out for me as removing a seized bolt isn’t a catastrophic undertaking.
Not like my car is shooting down missiles or blowing up Russian tanks.

However WD 40 cans make decent flame throwers

After enough of my favorite 3M parts cleaner the other stuff dosent smell much anymore!

You know, every time I take the distributor off, I tell myself "this is the last time I mess with this awful thing! I'm going to wasted spark!" and then I never do. One of these days...
