Hi Tom,

Currently racing in Champ Car. (https://champcar.org/web/). I really enjoy comradery of racing as a team, switching drivers and keeping the car going for 16 to 20 hours on a week end :thumbup:

Looking forward to the fun on Carpokes!

Andy

Welcome! Seeing as I am completely unfamiliar with what you're allowed to do for endurance racing, what is all done to the car?
1984 VW Rabbit Pick-up - Not stock
1988 944 Turbo S - Really not stock (Chris White special)
2012 VW Tiguan - Kinda stock
2013 Cayenne Base - 6 Speed! Tastefully modified, mostly stock

Hi Darwin,

Car mods for endurance racing depend on the competition rules for the series. Depending on the series, the competition rules can be less or more complex. For ChampCar, it is pretty straight forward. There are all the safety modifications you HAVE TO make (Cage, seat, harness, fire suppression system, etc.) and then there are the modifications you want to make. (Performance, handling, areo, cooling, etc.) In Champ, The cars get classified based on a vehicle performance index. then, based on the performance, handling and areo mods you put on the car, they translates to points that can bump up a class level. I focus a lot on modifications that reduce weight, increase airflow for cooling, and anything that adds to longevity.

Probably a dumb question, what are the wheels? Seem bigger than OEM phone dials.

@Neil

The wheels are 15 inch phone dials. I'm running 225/45 R15 Hankook tires. The rules for ChampCar is a tread ware of 200, so you can't run slicks.

@ Rob III

Yes. In 2017, we did a 24 hour race at Utah Motorsports Complex with a BMW 325. I did a evening stint and then a 3AM stint. It was very challenging and fun. It is really easy to loose perspective in the dark!! :o
