The answer may be obvious, but I’m asking regardless. Can one of these be used for frunk access, instead of a donor battery, in the case of a dead battery?

It's not obvious at all -- ask me how I know. The issue with all those fancy boosters/chargers is that the have onboard nannies that only deliver power to the cables if/when a battery is detected. Since the frunk terminal is not connected to a battery, the boosters don't power the frunk unless you can override the nannies. That GB40 claims to have a manual override -- see video below. I tried two different trickle chargers that purported to have manual overrides and I wasn't able to get either of them to pop my frunk, so I had to pull out my old school Craftsman battery charger with the mad-scientist needle gauges on the front (which worked like a charm). The GB40 override seems like less of an after-thought than the overrides on my trickle chargers, however, so I'd imagine it works.
That version is only for lead-acid batteries by the way....
