November of 1984 Porsche 944 NA.
Replaced clutch master and slave. Properly bled and can be seen actively moving the fork via the slave's pushrod.
So that is fixed. Newer clutch but with the clutch released and the transmission in any gear, when the motor is spun over by hand it spins freely (resisrance from compression strokes)
Any thoughts as to why it would do that. I pulled the clutch and wverything seems fine. Transaxle shifrs into every gear and has positive engagement.

Does the coupler at the rear of the torque shaft rotate when you turn the motor? If so, that points to the coupler or transaxle. If not, then clutch or torque tube. If it's up front, then maybe pull the torque input shaft out with the clutch assembled and look in there when you turn the motor to see what's going on?

Any chance you have a rubber-centered clutch disk with broken out rubber? I once had a helper spring come loose from the disk and wedge itself between the flywheel and PP causing a similar type issue. Will be curious to hear what you find.

Coupler at the torque tube is fine. I ended up pulling everything out. Transaxle and engine. The clutch was a fairly new but rusty (sat in a field for a few years) Sachs replacement. When I observed it I suspected a rubber center clutch as well. Regardless I have a new clutch set and resurfaced flywheel. In the process of putting it all back. Will see what transpires in a few days.

Hi, the clutch on mine did similar and it was the clutch moving (or not) on the splines. I think they get a bit rusty with lack of use
