Shop quoted $1500 CAD to rebuild my k26. Anybody want to sell me a turbocharger?

Hello Carpokes! In the process of fixing up my 1986 944 turbo and need to sort out the turbo. The original turbo has extensive compressor wheel damage, and i have a spare k26 that has excessive shaft play.

I was quoted $1500 CAD by a shop in burnaby to rebuild the k26 with shaft play, and am curious if anybody here has one for sale, or could advise me on what route to go.

I am open to upgrading to a modern turbo but bolt on would be a strong preference. I have modest power goals, and honestly i would be happy with stock, but for the money i feel like i can upgrade from 30 year old tech. Interested in a k26/8, or k27, or?

Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks

Contact Alamo turbo in Calgary.

Price out rebuild from them and new turbo options.
Unless you want a bone stock K26 there a upgrades available at Evergreen turbo some owners have used and seem happy with.

Based on your goals, I would stick with a K26 for sure. A k26/8 with good chips will drop in without any of the mods needed for the bigger turbos, and makes great power -- and if you want a smidge more, there are 'cheater' options to get even a tad more flow out of them. Anything more, and you start needing to replace the AFM, injectors, clutch, J-pipe, etc., etc. A 300rwhp k26/8 951 is a blast to drive too. :)

Seems like a reasonable price if the rebuilder is reputable
