Yes, I did the switchover myself. If you have some interior pry tools (usually plastic) it’s not difficult. YouTube has a couple of good how-tos. You can do it.

Does the Rennline phone mount hold with phone in a cover or does phone have to be naked?

Holds great with Case on the phone. I have an iPhone which has the MagSafe built in; the phone case (also Apple) has MagSafe built in, too.
