My long journey with Porsche started with a 1973 Porsche Carrera. Here is a real one:
Porsche made ~1500 cars including 200 Lightweights. Most were raced very successfully. I read an article in a magazine about the car in the late 1980's. I needed one really bad.
I found this one (not a real one but close to my budget):
Here is my replica. 1973.5 Porsche 911 T in Gemini Blue (no sunroof). A 911S engine was found and rebuilt to 2.7L. A Porsche 915 5-speed was also installed. The front was replaced, and a big oil cooler was installed. The wider rear fenders were added with a Porsche duck-tail. The brakes were changed to 911S rotors and calipers. The suspension was lowered as well as a rollbar and harness was installed. An original interior was installed (no radio, leather straps to open doors, etc).
Here is the Jager 1973 Porsche 911 RSR getting some big grip in the month's Mitty at Road Atlanta. These weigh in today at 2100 lbs with modern materials and modern bias tires (no radial tires allowed in vintage).
Pretty amazing cars. Do you own both the blue replica and the Jager car currently, along the with modern ones in your signature? If I had the garage space, money and time, a blood orange Carrera RS has always been at the top of my list.
Tom,
The Jager car is owned by a friend. --Funny Story-- He actually had sponsorship by Jägermeister at one time. His paddock space was #1 after the racing was over. Brian Johnson was also a place to visit (lead singer AC/DC). Brain had a wonderful collection of old Scottish whiskey.
Anyway, I'd set my iPhone to 10:00 pm to go back to bed to be half decent the next morning at 8:00 am. These guys can wear a guy out (some racers say they were drinking colored water).
Here is my 1969 Porsche 9112.2L ST replica. It's a great car and well known. It had straight exhaust which was a little iffy when getting the serial number verified by the police. They sent out a Sgt. that was an old friend.
My main plan is the Amelia Island WERKS Reunion every year. It's on the East Coast and the West Coast.
Just saying but all motivated Porsche guys go to this. It's good to support them on this forum.
We all know that Rennsport Reunion has been announced for 2023. This is only every 4 years:
...WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca will host the world’s largest fan gathering in September 2023..
The new cars are all sure great, but all Porsche guys need to attend the big events to get the best understanding on why a Porsche is the greatest car ever made. Jerry Sienfield will attend with Jay Leno. I pretend that I don't know them.
