Has anyone bought a new aftermarket carpet kit for the 944? I see tons of them on eBay and I was wondering what they're like. Mine are in pretty bad shape, especially the trunk carpet. There seem to be a lot out there like this https://www.ebay.com/itm/193320202699?_ ... %7Ciid%3A1.

But what are they like? How well do they really fit?

I'm thinking it's kind of a 'get what you pay for' thing. At a friend's upholstery shop, I've seen them use carpet that's every bit as nice as stock, but I've also seen carpet sets that look too cheap for a dog house. Most auto upholstery shops, and most online sellers, have samples you can check out before buying. I once order a sample from one of the big online sellers and it prompted me to find a decent used set of factory carpets. I still have my old tan carpets if you want them. They are dirty, but not torn. :)

Hmmm, how dirty are we talking? If you happen to have pics or can get some easily, I'd be interested!

Well the driver footwell was the worst, but I didn't put much (any) effort into cleaning them before I switched over to black. They are in my shed -- and I'd love to see them go to a good home. Not sure what they'd cost to ship, but you could have them for whatever the shipping cost is. If you are seriously interested, let me know and I'll schlep them out of the shed and take some pictures. I took pictures for someone else in the past, but I'll never find them. :(

Wow thanks, that would be amazing. You probably have higher standards than me so I bet they pretty good!

I am definitely interested. In my case the worst by far is the trunk area. Everything else is mostly covered by the mats, which are great. But years ago I stupidly put engine parts and tools in the trunk and got oily stains all over the carpet, and now you can see them even through the hatch. If they're tan I'd have to change everything (mine are beige coloured, I think they called it "linen") but it might be worth it.

The rear area on mine were in pretty good shape! It was the driver footwell that was so dirty. They do have 6x9 speakers installed in the rear well flaps (flat in the carpet with brackets. They are circa 1980's but they were darn good speakers -- much better than what's in there now -- I just didn't want speaker in the carpet like that.

I found these pics I posted 'elsewhere' when I took them out. Not a great picture of the rear section, but I can yank that out and snap a pic. I fear what it would cost to ship though....

Yeah it'll probably be a lot to ship, but still they're hard to find. It does look like it's in better shape than mine, but if you can get another pic of the rear section that would be good to see. I wouldn't need the rear seats or the driver's carpet, I'm pretty sure mine is better than that. It looks like they are the same colour as mine too so a partial swap should work. I think my middle section is fine too but I'll have a closer look tomorrow (it's dark here now). I know my passenger footwell has some green stains from water when I had a leaking battery tray so that one would probably be an improvement.

I wish I'd just had black carpets to begin with - they're always clean!

I'll get some pictures of the rear section in the morning. From memory, that was the best section to come out of the car.... But that's why I went with black carpets. I got lucky and sound someone parting out a 968 with good black carpet, so it seemed like a no brainer.

Here is the rear carpet section. I 'think' I have the other speaker somewhere, but would have to hunt for it. The one by the hole in the carpet is a brand new one intended for my car, which I just set there to make sure a new modern 6x9 speaker would fill the hole (it will). The first pic probably makes it look better than it is, and the second pic probably makes it look worse than it is...
