Looking for help with my rear cam tower gasket replacement. When I went to remove the bolts, they were only finger tight. To my surprise, the PO must have changed the gasket at some point, because it wasn’t the cork type. Everything came off real easy, but after installing a new silicone type gasket, I seem to be having some issues seating it properly. Does anyone know if maybe the torque spec is different for this type of gasket as opposed to the 6ft lbs that is recommended for the factory cork type ?

Yes the silicone gasket needs a lower torque spec for the bolts in order not to bulge all over the place. Mild Loctite on the bolts might be a good idea to help them not undo themselves since the bolt torque setting is so low. Or, in place of the gasket, it might be a good idea to try using the Loctite 574 from the balance shaft housings in this place as well.

The cork gasket seems old school and primitive I know, but they work well and last a long time. If you struggle with that silicon gasket, I'd just use a factory cork one.

Lower than 6ft lbs?

Oh boy. Last time I tried to tighten the stock cork gasket to 6ft lbs, the torque wrench just kept clicking and I hadn't even tightened anything down yet I gave up and just did it by feel.. the old snug plus 1/4 turn. Gasket got all squishy looking

That was 2014 and no leaks still
