Lifters

Hail Mary I know, but has anyone come up with an alternate lifter source for the 8v motors -- 928 105 311 08 ?

Porsche apparently still sells them, they they'd be over $2,000 for a set (or $4,000! for a 928)! I used the INA brand versions last time I built one of these (at like $45 a piece, still running strong), but those went out of production. 944online was selling "rebuilt" lifters for a while, but I haven't seen those for quite a while (making me think maybe they weren't reliable?). Curious what the gurus like @Gregbbrd and @michaelmount123 do? Just suck it up and pay for new one, or hand-pick good used ones, or ???

I know the 16v Audi units I’m using with coating are much lighter and much cheaper than stock oem Porsche stuff. But as far as 8 valve size I never compared to see if Audi guys had a equivalent size for us? There has to be a way to get some runs done of higher quality INA 8 valve lifters made!

Great info! Any update on this? Which Mercedes lifters are they, do you know? I once saw someone try to do the opposite by using smaller lifters with little sleeves, but never got a clear answer on if/how well it worked. Boring 1mm would be much easier...

Perhaps the +1mm Mercedes will be a solution, but only time will tell.

Alternatively, I've sent 2V lifters to Precision Products Performance Center (pppcenter.com) for reconditioning. They're a (primarily) NASCAR shop which does high quality work, and refinishing is cheap. I never put a used lifter on a new lobe, nor used lifters on a used lobe unless I'm confident I can match the used lifter to the original lobe it was run on. Cam/lifter break-in is also critical, but that's another subject.

I am dropping off a couple of lifters at the machine shop Thursday. Going to see if we can make them.

An email is coming your way for the flywheel:). Joe was away on holidays.

Thanks gents! I will give the NASCAR place a call. Hopefully, these other options prove out over time, but with any luck I’ll be ready to assemble the cam tower fairly soon. :)
