Mylar camshaft seal

Hey everyone, I’m replacing all the gaskets on my camshaft tower but my kit never provided a replacement Mylar seal that goes between the tower and the cam gear cover. I was wondering if I could get away with reusing the same one or if it’s critical enough that I have to replace it. Thanks!

There is one mylar seal. It installs on the cam snout before the radial seal race is installed. The pulley housing to cam housing is sealed by an o ring and a small cylindrical plug face seal.

Ah yes, my apologies. How bad would it be if I didn’t end up replacing that Mylar seal?

I friend of mine tried to reuse a mylar seal and, well...

Kidding of course. I think most people just replace them so there probably isn't a lot of data on reusing them. If it looks ok, my wild guess it that it would be ok more often than not...

If the seal is in good shape visually, it will very likely be fine to reuse. Before you do, go through your gasket set again. The seal is usually in a small translucent envelope which may appear empty. It will be in the upper (cylinder head) gasket set.

Haha, it actually was there! It’s so translucent you can barely see it in the bag. Thanks for telling me to double check, I would’ve accidentally thrown it away
