I have a 2019 911. As you know it has a diamond switch on the steering wheel. This allows you to option this button for various functions, of your choice. I set mine up numerous times to fast forward to the next track on the audio system. I know there is a button on the audio system but the steering wheel would be more convenient to me. My problem is that the function disappears when the car is turned off. Maybe I’m doing something wrong but I can’t imagine why this cuts off when you turn the car off. If you have a tip please let me know.

I'm curious if the wild card "diamond" button holds for other functions such as on/off for auto start/stop. If yes, is it possible that the PCM's audio programming does not allow fully saving the operation due to a software glitch or an oversight when the system was designed? Just a wild guess.

Beyond that, AI turned up several suggestions such as this one:

"... this limitation is a known annoyance in the 991.2 platform and is often discussed on Porsche and motorsports forums. If persistent, Porsche dealer service can verify whether a PCM update or hardware change is needed, but currently, the inability to retain diamond button memory appears linked to missing or disabled auto memory options in the software."

I have no idea how accurate the AI findings are but the statement seems plausible. Here's the link to the whole Perplexity Pro answer. (Hopefully the link will work for those who don't have a Perplexity account. Please let me know if it doesn't.)

Thanks, it doesn’t make sense unless I’m going for a drive longer than an hour. I haven’t tried to use it for another function yet. Maybe I’ll check that out.

Well I just solved my own problem. I installed an Apple play wireless adapter ( won’t have to plug the phone in) and the diamond switch works on its memorized function even if I turn the car off.

Thanks for sorting this and explaining. Please share what wireless CarPlay device you used and any further about where it can be sourced.

Hello, The device is a thumb drive that plugs into the usb in the console between the seats. It is made by QuadLock. It is fairly reliable but cuts off occasionally like Bluetooth devices will do. It’s a lot less trouble than plugging in your phone. Unfortunately, the diamond button does not save the function I would like to use and I haven’t tried another function yet.

FWIW - The ♢ button setting is not persistent unless you save the new setting to the key/seat memory. At least that's how it works in my 718.

Still doesn’t work, probably a software glitch on my car. I can live without it.
