A pretty car no doubt. Recent TB and water pump a plus. Based on the description and pics, looks like a good car for the current money.

It's not a highly-optioned example. The AC and draped leather are pretty common in US cars. I'd need to go look, but I the CO2 is a California market car. I'll edit this if I'm mistaken. The auto box is a plus for me but is a deduct in the market vs. the manual cars. Personal choice depends on how and where you like to drive. In L.A. traffic the auto box reigned. If you are looking for a 928 to actually drive, and like the GPW over black, it's a great candidate.

The annual 928 Frenzy is in the DC area next month. Perfect reason to fly over to Raleigh, pick the car up, let some enthusiasts introduce you to it, and drive/tour home in pretty grand style. There are many worse choices for moving a lot of asphalt under the car.

Rebuilding and upgrading the engine on one of those is something I have aspired to for a long time (drilling pistons, GT cams, a better intake).
I almost bought a no sunroof, manual '95 four years ago but it had been left under a shed for long and there was too much cosmetic work required wrt the asking price.

Cams, some intake work along with some exhaust definitely livens these up a bit. The '94 may have the pistons drilled already. For this one with such low miles indicated, I'd be hard pressed to get deep into the block unless there are other worries. For anything 'both heads off', the engine is out in a stand anyway, so no worries inspecting and enlarging the drains under the oil rings.

Intake options should be getting better with the proliferation of larger-capacity 3D printers. There are several one-off intake efforts to look at making, all the way to ITB's if you are looking for peak HP. Longer runners help a lot with low- and mid-range torque, adding a lot to the rod driving experience. For sure it helps a lot with the automatic.

For this low-miles and cosmetically excellent example, it would be hard to justify straying far from what's there right now if you want to maintain some market value. If that's not a concern, shop for a higher-miles example and feel less guilty about doing upgrades. That's the way I feel about them anyway.

Two of the receipts say it has 104k+ miles? Not sure what's up with that? Also, in the pic I posted above, the rear quarter looks whiter than the rest of the car? Maybe just angles, but other pics look that way too. It's already up to $40k, with a day to go, so I'm guessing this will go for at least double that. I know people are doing it every day, but I have a hard time with the idea of spending that kind of money on a car without a PPI and/or being able to see it myself...

Bid to $51,600, no sale. Not sure what the current market value is, but I wouldn't have sold it for that either...

The 928 is a bit of an orphan as far as finding folks to work on them. Tom, you happen to have an excellent 928-savvy tech at a local dealer, if it came to that. Whether you could get your car to her would take a little extra, thanks to the way work is handed out.

One of the comments in that auction looks like it's from the same local with the low-miles 1980 car, lamenting again that he just can't find anybody here in our central Oregon mini-metropolis who will even look at his car for more than even basic services.

On the 104k receipts, it would certainly be part of any due diligence to trace it's registration and service history. The prom that was used to store run data like the odometer readings is not that difficult to 'adjust' with a little skill and a programmer. It's also the same chip that HP used in a series of toner cartridges for cycle-memory in some enterprise-class printers. You can buy 'service' clones for those chips, and once soldered in they can way too be easily reprogrammed in the car with no extra skill beyond following the new-gauge-cluster install instructions in the workshop manuals. The proms have a useful memory life of about ten years without power applied. In the barn for more than ten years? Yeah, it was parked after the drive home from the dealer.... That's the ticket!

Looking harder at the photos, the front brake rotors are drilled, something that says replacement rotors. I'm not sure a 48k car would have those replacements installed already. Clues...

From being in the automotive business for years the 104K on receipts and claims of only 48K for miles is a huge indicator to me to take a walk. Many States drop the odometer reading on older cars on titles and just list as mileage unknown yet once done on an exotic it can be the death knell for a high price. May look pretty, but considering the receipts time to move on, imho.
