I just has my 97 944 S1.5 (87 944s with an S2 motor) dynoed. The motor was rebuilt without touching the bores about 40k miles ago and is bone stock but the ECU may have a Firehawk chip. The only changes to it are the exhaust (Magnaflow header back Y pipe, Boral resonator and Borla muffler). I'm happy with the numbers. I will be doing a MS2PNP ECU, a mild ported head and new Cat Cams 5220212 283 272 duration and a 968 intake.

The 182 HP and TQ in the 160 Ft/lb region is a great starting point. and this dyno is intended just as a baseline.

Looks like a solid S2 motor. Will be interesting to see what you get with those mods. Please do keep up posted.

Solid plan, I nearly went that way myself even ran the MSPNP for a while. I wouldn't bother with the 968 manifold its tuned to work with the Variocam. You'll notice the improvement in flow when you remove the AFM.

I ran a 968 intake on my S2 for about a year and didnt really notice a huge difference.

Now I have a 968 head with variocam to match and controlling VC through megasquirt rpm triggered output. I think most of the HP gains are from the larger intake valves, and maybe a little bit due to VC.

On the Megasquirt topic - one benefit of MS is the ability to run speed density (MAP sensor + IAT sensor), eliminating the need for an AFM or MAF, and having the ability to tweak the timing tables, which can yield more HP than the stock tune, especially if you have access to 93 octane.

Youll also have access to all the sensor data feeds and logging, making diagnosing issues much easier.

Overall, very happy with the MSDIYPNP kit, although I would caution there is a somewhat steep learning curve to get the car idling and running well - although you could also work with a tuner (even a remote tuner) to overcome this. Learning all the factors in how to tune a car (but moreso configuring for good driveability) has been an interesting journey with much more still to learn and implement.
