Hey fellow Carpokeans,
There’s something uniquely satisfying about combining two passions: driving and discovering great food. My wife and I often take the Cayman GTS on an impromptu road trip—not for speed or scenery but for a different kind of indulgence: food.

If you feel so inclined, please post some of your drives and the food you ate. It could be a picnic in a scenic spot or a great out of the way hidden restaurant. Last week we drove to Redondo Beach Village and discovered a great casual restaurant, Rockefeller. I had one of the best cheeseburgers that I’ve ever eaten.

Feel free to post photos!

For those of us south of SF in the Bay Area, we have quite a few car-friendly dives, but the grand-daddy of them all has to be Alice's up on Skyline (highway 35) in Woodside. It sits on the ridge of the Santa Cruz mountains about half way from the beach to the west and the bay area suburbs to the east. The restaurant is a breakfast/lunch dive with good food, but its real claim to fame is its location in the hills -- whether coming from the north, south, east, or west, the drive to Alice's is a great mix of mountain roads and scenery. On any given day, there are always great cars and bikes to be seen -- some organized get-togethers, but mostly just the default place to drive to and hang out. Here's a video I found giving you a pretty good taste for it's like on a sunny summer day...

Hmmm…I wonder if it’s related to the Alice’s restaurants that were in Malibu and many years ago, in Westwood Village near UCLA?

I don't think so. It's been up there for over 100 years, although it's only been called Alice's since the '60's when it was bought by a lady named Alice. It's a little family-owned compound with a gas station and gift shop, small bar in the back (for those who want to add adventure to their mountain drive I guess). It's not in the tourist books, but a must-see for car-people visiting the bay area.

Had breakfast at the Flying Beaver yesterday. It's the restaurant and terminal for sea planes at the Vancouver Airport. Food was surprisingly good!
