Had a Little Fun Today

For some reason I decided to mount a pair of 964/993 style window switches in my 944. I always found it awkward to press the stock switches, especially when I needed to activate both switches at the same time. The backhanded motion is not the best ergonomic design.
But now....

The 911 switches have a lighter effort with a positive detent. The up/down motion makes it easier to reach and activate. Mounting them to the stock plate was tricky, which is why I'm not going to post details. I simply enjoy this type of creative thinking. :geek:

Congratulations on becoming a switch hitter -----have to agree as some ergonomics Porsche does are what I consider their minor weaknesses.

Neat idea, but I have some bad news for you: in 20 years of working at a Porsche specialty shop, I have yet to find a 911/964/993 window switch that lasts more than a few years with normal use, various iterations of "Genuine Porsche" included. We currently use the "OEM manufacturer" version from one of our wholesale warehouse suppliers and hope they last longer than the norm.

There used to be a company which advertised 911 window switch rebuilding services in the back section of Excellence Magazine, installed exactly one set of those in a customer car before they disappeared . . . .

First cars had cranks and levers and snaps, and such. Then they motorized things and added buttons and switches. Then they got rid of the buttons and switches and put it all in touch screens. I'm guessing pretty soon you'll just tell the car to roll down the window and it will.

But I still think Dave's switches look cool. :)
