A local hardware store used to carry gloves that I really liked, but they went out of business, so now I've been using cheap-o Harbor Freight gloves when working on my car. They're better than nothing, but they tear easily and seem less chemical resistant than my old gloves. Anyone have a good latex/nitrile glove to recommend?

Uline is kind of the McMaster-Carr in the commercial business world of shipping, industrial, safety, storage, packaging materials and a whole lot more. They have a massive inventory. They are geared to commercial businesses and aren't cheap but the products they offer are the best by light years. If they don't have it, it's probably not made. Lol.

I think Harbor Freight has good/better/best . If you are using " cheapo " do not expect greatness. Mil thickness is my gauge for shop gloves . Nothing thinner than 7 mil . Thicker if using nasty chemicals . At least that works for me .

I use the Harbor Freight 9 mil black nitrile gloves. Very durable, I frequently wear the same pair over multiple days.

I must be getting the cheap ones instinctually. I'll revisit the glove isle this week.

I just bought a new box of the H-F 7 mil gloves on a 'parking lot sale' half-price deal. Also saw and purchased a box of 7mm 'textured' nitrile gloves. I sometimes buy their 5mm gloves, but find that they are good only for cleaning and maybe painting. Cheap and built to stay that way. Their 9mm nitrile gloves get the heavier duty.

Best recent glove purchase was a dozen pairs of cut-proof gloves at Woot.com (amazon outlet) for too cheap at less than $10 for a dozen. By the time I tried them in anger they were no longer available. Good hand protection and they last a really long time. Well over a year on the first pair, and I just toss them into the garage Maytag when they get dirty. They eventually gave up at the thumb stitching, plus the dipped palm coating wore off. They did a LOT of work (cars, yard work, etc.). Gave a pair to a neighbor who threw them away when they got dirty, asked for more (no, wash the old ones like I told you...). Still have 9 pairs, which will likely outlast me.

I bought 4 boxes on the 5mil yesterday and a couple pump sprayers. Usually I hit Amazon for nitrile gloves, but the deal was too good to pass up. I have another car that's being painted so having light gloves for the sanding and minor paint work is ideal. It's also hot as hades lately so the thicker gloves = more sweat.

I use a brand called Thicksters when I need something rugged. 10mil if I remember correctly. They also get cleaned and re used until death.

Edit: Just checked. Thicksters are 14mil

I was in HF this morning . They are running a nitrile glove sale of buy one box get 2nd box 50 % off . The heaviest ones I saw was 9 mil . Other stores may be different but 9 mil is great for a DIYer in my opinion .

Thanks All! I got a box of the 9 mil and 7 mil gloves yesterday ant HF and they are every bit as good as my old ones. The 9 mil are too good/strong to throw away after a single use! The 5 mil I was complaining about are just too thin for anything but very light duty work, in my experience anyway.

I like the 7 mil the best. I will use a pair until they either get a hole or tear. Unfortunately I have found that my hands will sweat after a hour or so of use and I take them off inside out and let them dry before wearing again. I just get another pair. Unfortunately, I probably have 8-10 pairs of gloves laying around, trying to figure out how worn are they. I don’t usually get the 9 mil because they are black, so I can’t tell how dirty they are or which side has the most oil/grease residue. If I have to get the 5 mil, I will double them up and replace the outer ones if they tear. I might have to go by HF if the gloves are on sale.
