I have an 83 and need to replace the compressor to evaporator line that goes to the firewall. Everything I’ve read says it’s not easy even with the engine out which mine is not. Has anyone actually done this that can offer some tips on what seems like a Rubiks cube endeavor?
I’m sure I need to drop the evaporator box to give room as well as the air intake box and possibly remove the intake?

Sorry, I'm of no help. I wanted to changes the seals and rubber hoses across the firewall on my '86, but there was just too much in the way to dig in as elective surgery. Is yours actually leaking?

Yes. I rebuilt compressor thinking that’s the only place the leak was. After flushing the entire system and pulling a vacuum, I could tell I had a small leak. I added refrigerant and could see the leak (dye) at one of the hardline fittings on that hose. Of course it’s the longest and most difficult to work with.
