From WSJ:
"Ship Carrying Thousands of Vehicles Adrift in Pacific After Catching Fire"
"All 22 crew members were safely evacuated from vessel taking cars made in China to Mexico"

Carscoops:

"Cargo Ship Vanished In Smoke With 3,000 Cars And EVs Still Trapped Below Deck"
"Morning Midas was en route to Mexico with at least 800 electric cars when the fire broke out in the Pacific"
Lots of reports coming out on the incident but no photos yet. Somewhere off the coast of Alaska. No Porsches on board it appears.

This doesn't look good. Crew was unable to get the fire under control and were rescued from the ship. Hoping that they can get it to a safer mooring and prevent it from sinking but the amount of smoke indicates otherwise.

Very good the crew is safe. Transporting EVs is a little riskier if a fire does occur of course due to the difficulty of extinguishing it.

Add 'The Morning Midas' RoRo to the others at the bottom of the ocean as this one finally sunk in the Pacific late Monday evening due to the fire that could not be contained. No official blame being released but it was likely an EV battery that combusted and started it all. There were a reported 800 EVs on board along with another 2200 others (ICE and Hybrids I guess), most (all?) from China on their way to Mexico.
No Porsches this time, thankfully!

As a follow up to the news you posted above regarding 'The Morning Midas'.
It's going to be costly.
Cheers

Big bucks indeed @ $560m for this latest fire/sinking and an est $1.8b for all three car carrier ships that have sunk in the past three years due to fires. This from the article:
"As Automotive News reports, the estimates do not include downstream commercial losses, medical expenses, ship replacement or an environmental clean-up plan."
