944 Turbo Battery Replacement

What BATT are you guys running in your Turbo models......need to get a new replacement and heard mixed reviews on the Optima red/yellow tops.

Autozone Duralast Gold here, Group 91 (aka H6). Autozone seems to have good prices and selection. Most lead-acid batteries are all made by the same 2 or 3 companies, so I tend to use the warranty length as a proxy for what's inside. I think the AGM batteries are fussier about battery tenders, no? I remember shopping for them and then going with the Duralast for some reason...

yep, all batteries are made by either Johnson Controls or Exide.
I've had a Optima red top for over 10 years but I've heard that the new ones are "not as good" BTW it's really little too tall for the battery compartment. I like the AGM because of the no leak advantage.

This all reminds me of when I first got my car, The PO had a hack stereo shop install this monster setup in the car and when he ran the main power supply off the battery the idiot drilled a 1/2" hole through the bottom of the battery compartment. This genius also ran self tapping screws through the rear deck to mount his amps right into the gas tank. LOL

My car came with a state-of-the-1986-art stereo, radar detector behind the front bumper cap, and a massive CD changer the size of a VW stuffed in the wheel arch well at the back of the car. It physically moved CDs around inside like an old Juke Box. All of it was installed by Circuit City with a horrific lack of care/skill. The OP spend thousands on all this stuff, and they made every connection with jiggly vampire clips, and would just drill or cut anything remotely inconvenient. The capper was the rear wheel well area where they put the CD changer. It simply did not fit, so they cut out a chunk of the fender well about the size of a deck of cards so the corner of the CD changer could stick out. However, being mindful of corrosion and road noise, they sealed the whole corner up with a massive wad of clear silicon -- like the kind you use to seal a shower door. When I finally had a body shop fix it all, they gave me the silicon wad as a souvenir. It was about the size of a softball. But at least they didn't put a rain hole directly above my DME. Nature did that several years later.

The DieHard AGM is a 96R I'm using also fits the factory mounts no problem and is a bit shorter for more clearance FWIW.

If anyone can ever find a Panasonic battery that fits I highly recommend.

My Panasonic in 2007 FJ cruiser lasted from the factory…guessing late 2006 manufacture date to July of 2021. This included spending days outside in freezing ass temperatures in the winter during its life.

Another Panasonic I had in another vehicle lasted almost as long and that car had the battery go dead a couple times due to an interior light being left on.

I can’t find anywhere to buy new Panasonic batteries, however, an auto wrecker might have a new written off vehicle with one.

Press a button on the battery or key fob and it will have enough reserve power to start your car). Size T6, which is a perfect fit for the 944/968, 40 ah rating. Massive cranking power, along with massive price... but it does save weight
