Raising/Lowering Engine

I’m following the steps on Pelican’s tech articles for replacing the oil pan gasket. After much time I’m finally to the point where I need to remove the engine mounts, and crossmember. Apparently I am going to need to raise, and lower the engine to do this. There’s no mention of disconnecting anything related to the bell housing or trans, or AC lines, or anything else really. Is it safe to be moving the engine up and down a bit ? And if so how much should I be moving it ? Any insight would be greatly appreciated !

You only need to raise an inch or so, which is totally safe. You’re really just suspending the engine. I’m assuming you’re using a brace from above to hold the engine. Just take your time, go slow and visually check hoses as you go.

Exactly what @944m3 said. You aren’t really raising the engine at all. You simply want to put tension on the supports from above on your cross brace so that it doesn’t fall down at all. If you raise it up an inch or so, that’s perfectly fine and may be needed if you are putting new motor mounts in and your old ones are collapsed.

Thank you for that information. That makes a lot of sense. Yes, I do plan on suspending the engine from above with one of the Harbor Freight support braces. Thanks !!
