2005 Boxster-S interior paint soft, scratches easily. Has any one repainted, replaced original soft paint?
If yes, please help.

I recovered the console on my 986 with automotive leather look vinyl. Very please with the results. I got the idea from Pedros Garage site. I tried a couple of different paints with very poor results. The soft paint is a real horror story. I have a couple more items to cover.

I need to learn how to post pictures on Carpokes.

I should have documented the process. It was easy, just very time consuming. Re-installation really required at least the passenger seat be pulled. Pulling both made things much easier.

I have an update on my use of vinyl materiel. Went to the Tail and The Rattler for the week. The sun caused some of it to peal up. Make sure you use FRESH glue. Use plenty of heat to stretch the material so it lays very flat. There are way to many hills and valleys on the console. I use 3M General Trim Adhesive Part # 08088. The upside is I can pull the console quickly!

Big improvement!

Curious if you removed the paint before adding the vinyl?

Sorry it took so long to answer. I sanded, ALOT. Painted first and was very unhappy with results. Sanded and covered with vinyl. I have great luck on some pieces (holding well) and poor luck on others.

This is an update on my reburb of my console. I pulled all the vinyl I used off and reapplied the original Porsche vinyl on the 4 pieces initially covered. I cleaned and sanded all the glue off and painted the console and vinyl with SEM Color coat obtained from my local auto paint shop. I was told to let the paint cure at least 3 days before installing. I think I waoted a week. It seems to be a very solid and durable surface and it looks great. If I had to do over would have started with the SEM Color Coat (flexible coating for vinyl surfaces, flexible and rigid plastics, carpets and velour).

I use this stuff for all upholstery. That's what the Pro's are using. You can also apply it with a brush, which is less messy.
