Hey guys and gals , today I added a custom steering wheel as part of my upgrades to knock down the sea of gray . This is in my 99 996 C4 . I had previously had the seats recovered , changed the gear shift boot and the center console lid . All in black leather with red stitching . Last week I added a black suede dash cover with red stitching .

Today I installed the steering wheel . It was made in Germany via ebay . The guy takes a stock wheel and alters to the flat bottom . Then new foam and grips are added then covered it in black leather with red stitching . Final touch is the centering ring . Starting with a stock wheel the fit was perfect . Zero issues with the install .

Because the guy sources stock wheels in Germany I did not have to ship my gray wheel to him . So I can keep it or sell it if I choose to . The black wheel leather is different in color than the OEM air bag but it's not bad . The view of the gauges is good no complaints there . The " feel " is excellent ! Thicker and softer than the original I am very happy . Sorry for the crappy picture I am definitely not a photographer

Lol - it doesn't. But that's a big part of the fun!

Really well done and it is likely to fool many ( even some Porschephiles ) folks , it looks clean and factory like!!

Thanks . They are very similar to what VW GTI's used in the past . I had a local upholstery shop do the front and back seats to match . Black perimeter in black leather with red stitching . And of course the plaid inserts . Looks fantastic pics can't do them justice .

I had the upholstery shop rebuild the seat bottoms with extra foam . He also built up the bolsters and added lumbar support . They are comfortable and hold you in place quite well . Kind of a quazi sport seat .

Nice upgrade! So to be clear...you get a "new" wheel shipped from Germany any color, but use your own airbag? You mention you had a gray wheel, but are showing a black airbag. Did you buy a black airbag for the new black wheel? Do you have a link or contact info. for this company in Germany?

I have the typical "sand beige" interior. A few years ago I bought a Momo flat bottom (Eagle) steering wheel and I just love it. Much more room for getting into and out of the car. But, of course, I no longer have the airbag which concerns me a bit. Would love to have the Porsche wheel with the airbag but with the flat bottom.

I have a bunch of family in town , give me a few days I will try to find the link . You are correct you can get the wheel in different colors . You can use your airbag if the color matches or even if it doesn't if you don't mind a two tone .
