After getting pulled over and stopped, the Officer told me the reason was because I didn't have a front license plate. (Yes I know this is required in Texas, but who wants to ruin the looks of the front end?) The Officer even admitted putting the front plate on would diminish the look of the car.

I opted for the Stonsho bracket - it works great and the license plate is removable if necessary. No drilling involved - a great idea.

Well, this is interesting, Rich. A friend of mine recommended this same product. They don't make one of these for my model, but I'm not sure why one couldn't be adapted on the underside of the bumper / splitter.

Do you have any more photos of how it mounted? Especially if no drilling?

Here are two pictures from under the front spoiler.

The second picture shows items 1 and 2 noted. Item 1 is a spring loaded pin which can be used to disconnect (pull-out) the license plate bracket. Item 2 is one of the two bolts that holds the base plate to the car. The two bolts replaced two screws that were already there. The red arrows point to the horizontal legs of the license plate frame.

The first picture shows almost the entire base plate. Item 3 is the second bolt (replacing a pre-existing screw). Again the red arrows point to the horizontal legs of the license plate frame.

I will be looking into this as we will be moving to Iowa next year, but I found that there are brackets that hook up to a track tow hook using the area Porsche already tapped into the front bumper. I got my hook through Rennline and I will adapt it or check and see if they still sell a license plate adapter. This just seems like an easier solution.

This concept looks interesting for my 2014 Cayman front. Is there any chance it's actually legal? Is it made of car-wrap stuff, maybe? Removable? Know of a supplier?

Wrap plate

What it is: A flexible vinyl stick-on plate that doesn’t require mounting hardware. It’s available in eight of the plate designs offered by the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Who sells them: A Huntington Beach company called License Plate Wrap. Each costs $94, including tax and shipping. [Update: $131.60, as of June 2023.] The company coordinates with the DMV, and there’s a surcharge for registration.

Notes: They are intended for use as the front plate, so owners of cars without front plate holders don’t have to put holes in their bumpers.

I use the towhook mounting which means no drilling..........

I received a ticket for no front plate a dozen or so years ago. I went through the trouble of fabricating a nice bracket that holds the plate under the nose at the same angle as the nose. No holes, fits up into some baffles in the nose. I took a few pictures and the car, and went to get the ticket "signed off" at the issuing CHP office nearby. Nobody there cared about whether the problem was actually remedied; all they were really interested in was collecting the fine. I'm sure this is news to everyone else here, as it was to me.

I laser print on a transparent adhesive film for various things. I'd have no issues scanning the plate, color-correcting the image some to help it blend in with the black, and using that as a stick-on front plate while touring.

LPR's and intersection cams are starting to appear here, and I suspect there will be an increase in front-plate 'interest' here once revenue becomes a factor. Temptations include placing the plate down low and tilted to match the nose contour there as I have the real plate now. I also toy with using a IR-blocking window film on the plate to reduce its ability to reflect LIDAR signals. Same on fog and headlight lenses might offer a bit more time to react. A laptop privacy screen for a plate cover might limit the cone of visibility quite a bit too.

Being the loyal all-American crime-fighting not at all cynical guy that I am, these are just subjects of casual discussion; no plans to overthrow the king or anything like that.
