1st to 2nd gear grind in the manual

Anyone on here experienced that? I have and after it happened multiple times I searched it online. It's not me, and I'm getting a new transmission after only 3300 miles. All under warranty and approved by PCNA. That said, nobody at either dealership service claims to know about this. If it's happening to you, take it in and also write your respective Porsche HQ, so for me PCNA. It's not acceptable for a six figure vehicle.

I have read about it on other forums. I mostly took away that it is somewhat common for the first few thousand miles then it goes away and others have never experienced it. I bought mine used and never had the grind while I have had it. Others have reported it goes away after a clutch bleed or taking out the clutch delay valve.

Please report back when you get the replacement transmission and let us know if it is any different.

Will do, I just was notified that the swap is complete and they need to do a few test drives to make sure all is good. Of course today is the first day of snow for the season so just my luck it'll get delayed!

Since I first got my MT base Cayman back in April, I have done it about 7 times ( I remember as it was a painful experience each time) in the 3K mi I have driven it. I looked on the 718forum and there were threads relating to it.

One thread was about "warming up" the transmission, until then being very conscious about 1-2 shifts, e.g. to the floor with the clutch depression. Not sure of the validity of the statements or the science/mechanics behind it.

I tend to be cautious about letting the car get warmed up before any spirited driving effort and it could be a combo of my sloppy mechanics and the transmission at the time. Hopefully they have done the swap successfully and you have the car back along with the driving smiles.

I had it happen 3 times in the early days with my ‘21 CGTS. The last time it occurred was ~25k miles ago.

Surprisingly , over the years selling cars, I experienced a similar issue with other makes. I would tell folks with early Boss 302s to warm up the car and do slow shifts or even a 1st to third movement when the car was cold if one needed to be someplace in a short time. Warmed up , it went away with many ,but over the years improved synchros and a better tranny ( GT 350s and Mach 1s got a Tremec T3060 ) solved most issues. Many cars do not like an aggressive shift when really cold and the best bet, imho, would be to do a bit more plebeian driving before hammering Das Porsche.

It's been great so far, never had it happen again that I remember. I'm glad I didn't accept it and just keep driving it.

Sorry for the late reply! I took it to a Porsche dealer, one a bit closer to home. I told them what was happening, STRESSED that it wasn't me and not pushing the clutch in enough. The first day they couldn't replicate it and I was worried. The second day though, their master tech was able to recreate it multiple times and while someone else filmed. I never saw the video but apparently they contacted PCNA and boom, in a few days has all the new parts. The whole process I think took 7-8 days and I haven't noticed it since.
