Driving on Pilot Sport 4S but looking for better cornering and high speed performance. Any recommendations on track tires?

I am using the Bridgestone RE71RS, they are a 200 tread wear rated tire compared to the 300 tread wear of the 4s you currently have. The RE71RS are an enthusiast rated HPDE type tire, certainly not a racing slick.

J-Dub is correct and the Bridgerock is also a killer autocross tire. I am only about 60 miles from Lincoln, Ne. home of the SCCA Solo Nationals ( the crazy week plus is starting this weekend with the Pro-Solo Championship portion) and it is one of the top two choices among most Porsche drivers. The tire is also solid in the rain and will take more laps than some others on a road course before getting a bit greasy.
A friend at Tire Rack suggested I heat cycle them prior to running on the track or at an autocross , but his thought was to just get out and put some miles on them on the road and then park the car around 48 hours or more before working them hard!
Feel free to drop me or J-Dub a PM or post the size of the wheels you plan to mount them on.

Just got back from the Solo Nationals and as I imagined the Street Tire Classes were dominated by Yokohama A052s and Bridgestone RE71RSs. Both tires had plenty of wins or trophy placings, but you will find the Bridgestones will stand up to running more laps on a road course. Both tires often need sprayed down when running with two drivers on warm or hot days, but there may be a few other choices hiding in the wings. Nankang CR-S V2s were hung up with a DOT issue and therefore drivers did not show up on that tire the Falken RT660s are a Spec Tire so drivers who used them were literally only in said Classes. Falken, though, showed up with a new , revised 660 that will be available in early 2025 prompting some to wonder if they were going after a broader scope than just Spec Classes next year. So you may see a bit of a change for 2025, but you know for sure that the RE71RSs and the A052s are solid C0-Kings of the Hill at present.

Thanks guys. I didn’t know you had replied. I can’t find if I entered my email when I registered because I was looking for an email notification.

My overall goal is improved lap times. I’m finding that the 4S do feel greasy after a few laps at I-29. On long corners I’m getting under steer (?) when the tires are hot.

My dad and I are sharing the vehicle so it’s interesting, Willy, that you mention spraying them down. They are 160 degrees on the shoulder (?) of the tire and about 145 in the center. I’m also seeing significant scalloping on the shoulder of the tire like the tread is trying to “peel back” from the wall of the tire. It’s not actually coming off but I don’t see other drivers at our PCA drivers ed days with that kind of wear pattern.

How much negative camber do you have with your car ? I will be at the October 19th Great Plains Region PCA event so I would be more than happy to chat with you then, but please feel free to drop me a PM and I can give you suggestions on your choices. Spraying the tires down is usually more of an issue when Autocrossing , but with two driver cars on track it can be of some help on really hot days. Look forward to seeing you in October and if you want some more track time you can probably still sign up for the SCCA event at I-29 this coming Saturday. Look up under Midiv.org. go to Time Trials and they will list Driver's Education under TE , for Track Education - you will note it is much less cost than for the Time Trials. I will be running the Time Trials in my Cayman GTS ( #222 ) so if you decide to come I will be happy to help --- I have around 10,000 miles on that track over the past 20+ years.

Willy - this is the Dad - we have NO added camber - who in our area (Omaha / Lincoln) would install and adjust them for the 2010 Cayman S ?

I keep going back to Goodyear SC3s. They aren't the best tires for grip but they are very good and fairly cheap. They would be a good next step.
