New Member Checking In!

Hey all,
New member here, the advert on the PCA magazine got my curiosity piqued and here I am. I am a resident of the high desert of California (a couple hours south of Bishop) and a bit of a M96 fanatic - I know, the engine and car most frequently disliked, but for me the ones with the most freedom to fiddle with and enjoy the intersection of minimal electronics and the benefits of water cooling. Professionally, I am an attorney for transactional matters for small to mid-sized businesses.

I got into Porsches when a close friend was trying to convince my wife and I to start tracking as a hobby. The biggest selling point was that parts were easy to acquire because Porsche continues to make the parts, that companies happily upgraded parts, so track upgrades were readily at hand, and the cars could be worked on with time and patience. My wife's car was the first one acquired - a 2001 Boxster S - it arrived with a blown AOS, could not be smogged, and not a single mechanic in the area would touch it. Given the option of hauling it to the Los Angeles area for a fix or just do it myself, I opted to just do it myself and became fixated on working on my own cars after that. My car arrived a couple weeks later, a zenith blue 996 C4 that I am extremely fond of. At this point I have rebuilt a couple 986S engines, am in the process of rebuilding a 996.2 engine, and handle maintenance and upgrades for the small family of 996/986 cars hanging out.

We track with Speed Ventures when time and kids allow, usually out at Buttonwillow.

Current fun cars: 1999 996C4, 2002 996C2, 2001 986S, and a 2001 986S (his and hers track boxsters). Pic of the 996.1 and 996.2 attached - I am the worst at documenting things but will update as I can.

That's an excellent intro and, regarding you and your wife's first Porsche, a very positive outcome to what could have easily been a dejected dead-end. Nice! You now have quite the collection and a ton of experience in keeping them going and making them better, so hats off to you for that!

hundwerks I second seeing some pictures and I love reading about fellow enthusiasts who are willing to work on their own cars and really take the plunge in self learning a skill!
