I thought I'd start a new 3L Turbo registry here, since I can no longer update the "other" one.... Post up you motor's details (anything bigger than 2.5L qualifies) and let's get a list going...

1. Tom M: '89 (104.5mm) block/heads, o-ringed block, 968 crank, Carrillo rods, Mahle/Andial pistons, VR5 turbo/MAF/V-Knock; Profec B, KEP1pp/cup clutch, 500/500 at the wheels on its best day on a dynojet... Blew up 3 trannies, lots of CVs, etc... 8-)

2. Thom: 3.019L 16V, 104.5/88, Alusil, Custom Forged Mahle 16V pistons, Carrillo, 968 block/head with closed deck, GTX3576R 0.82,: Pauertuning's Vi-PEC/J&S set up with NGK U5015 COPs, TTV 60-2 flywheel, Tial 38mm MVS WG, LR full 3" exhaust, Bosch 044 fuel pump, KEP2 PP with 930 disc, 4FF 16V intake, Audi 20V TB

3. Darwin: 106mm (Darton MID), 88mm crank; Wossner pistons; Pauter rods; VR5 Turbo, Link Monsoon-X; LEDA coilovers; SFR1 headers, GMD585 coils.

Here are the specs of my 3.019L 16V engine.

Bore: 104.5, Alusil
Stroke: 88
Pistons: Custom forged Mahle 16V turbo
Rods: Carrillo
Block/Crank: 968, closed deck
Head/cam(s): 968
Turbo: Garrett GTX3582R 1.03
Engine Management: Pauertuning's Vi-PEC/J&S set up with NGK U5015 COPs.
Other: Lightened TTV 60-2 flywheel, Tial 38mm MVS WG, LR full 3" exhaust, Bosch 044 fuel pump, KEP St. 2 PP with 930 disc, 4FF 16V intake, Audi 20V TB, Custom intercooler with @Tom's custom IC pipes.

I’ll throw up my details tomorrow, but mine hasn’t changed much.

Bore: 106mm (Darton MID)
Stroke: 88mm
Pistons: Wossner
Rods: Pauter
Crank: 3L (not sure if it came from a 968 or S2)
Head/cam(s): 2.7 8V, Vitesse Cam, Turbo springs/exhaust valves
Turbo: Vitesse Stage V (looking at changing)
Engine Management: Link Monsoon-X.
Other: LEDA coilovers, SFR Stage 1 headers, GM D585 coils
1984 VW Rabbit Pick-up - Not stock
1988 944 Turbo S - Really not stock (Chris White special)
2012 VW Tiguan - Kinda stock
2013 Cayenne Base - 6 Speed! Tastefully modified, mostly stock

Not sure what era your turbo is from, but John updated my original VR5 (circa 2008 originally) and it really opened up the top end, I swear with less lag. Progress, what are you going to do..... Not sure if he's still doing them (?), but that might be an option vs an all new turbo.

Looking at the 3076R series as a replacement. I have a friend who is going to help me fab up the necessary exhaust components to run the v-bands and such.

Mine is from 2011. I didn't really know that was a service ever offered, but the turbo has already been rebuilt once. Ever since, I've struggled to keep oil from getting burned through the turbine housing. The turbo performs great, just figured if I was going to yank it out again, I might try updating to BB and v-band.

The GTX3076R 0.82 I ran on my 8V engine with the stock intake gave the most punch in the mid range.

That is the EXACT turbo that I’m trying to get!

Darwin, turbosmart make an oil pressure regulator for turbos that restricts pressure but not flow, which may be of use with your older turbo with oil getting forced into housing and burnt
