tools to have in the car

This week I'll be taking the 951 for its first proper trip in 1.5 years. But I feel like I should bring some tools with me.

Should I just bring everything? Or a selection of wrenches? A spare DME relay? Extra coolant and a vent set? A spare tyre?

What do you carry in the car during trips/daily driving?

#1 thing I always take is my phone! In terms of actual tools, maybe 10 and 13mm wrenches, pliers, pocket knife, straight and Phillips screwdriver, can of fix-a-flat, gloves/paper towels, some distilled water, road flares, front tow hook (ask me how I know), lithium battery booster or jumper cables, and of course....lots of duct tape. :)

tire plug kit
two part epoxy that cures in the presence of water(cayman with exposed radiators)

Never thought of that one... Really good idea.

The above 2 replies are gold. I still carry fuses from the Trauma my tr6 caused/causes me lol.

DME relay!
I read several endorsements to always have one available/with you on RL. My 951 started every time I turned the key, until it didn't. No warning, one day yes, the next day no. Put in one of the two I had on hand and it started right up. Like the American Express slogan "never leave home without it".

Just kidding - mostly. I try to be more of a "Be Prepared" type per Robert Baden-Powell. But, then again, Father Time allows occasional lapses to facilitate convenience. :D

Along with the tool kit that came with my 911 ( 996 ) and Macan I keep a multi tool , flashlight and knife inside that can be used to also break glass or cut seat belts. As well as our cell phones I have a membership to CAA/AAA that I have used on occasion such as battery failure. Unfortunately many modern cars are difficult to repair DYI and most will need a trained technician and well equiped shop.

I always carry along my ratchet set and another tool kit with screwdrivers, pliers, zip ties, a flexible magnet and whatnots. I do pretty much everything on the car with all of these tools, only leaving torque wrenches in the garage basically.
I was glad I was fully equipped when an intercooler hose popped out at high speed on the Autobahn, and the one on the compressor outlet. Pain in the back to get it back on because of the heat and tedious access, then the clamp broke after tightening it too much so used a spare I thankfully had.

I am happy to report that your tips already helped me!

On my first test drive, I noticed smoke coming from under the hood while I was airing my tyres. A quick check resulted in the verification that a coolant line ruptured near the clamp. I tried to retighten it, but the line just ruptured further.

I limped the 5 km home by adding more coolant and using duct tape on the trouble area. Unfortunately the duct tape didn't hold all that well, but I got home without overheating the car. So it did save the day!

I already ordered the line plus the coolant line on the other side to be sure. I hope they arrive quickly - they should arrive tomorrow.

My touring tool kit has tools I'm willing to use by the side of the road. If I have spares for things I worry about, I install them before I leave. Relay-relay-relay set, relay puller tool. Cheap DMM. WSM in a tablet. Toolkit tools that came with the car, plus one of those tool sets in a mini folding case I found at Home Depot as a gift set several decades ago. A string patch kit with fresh glue. Combo jump-start/compressor.

In 100k+ 928 miles I've not needed more than some instant detailer, glass cleaner, and microfiber towels. Knocks on Porsche wood...
