Have any of you had to replace the sunroof lift arm covers on an early (pre-'86.5) car? These are the cable driven mechanisms - not the later gear driven version. Mine cracked, so I purchased the current Porsche replacement parts (944-564-161-02-M100 and 944-564-162-02-M100). The casting wasn't exactly right on the rear screw hole, but I enlarged the hole slightly to get it to secure.

They seem to be just a bit longer, so that when I attempt to move the lift arms to their lock position, the arms hit the tip of the cover and push the sunroof up rather than slipping behind the cover and into the groove to allow operation of the sunroof.

Any suggestions? Image

The front holes appear to be slots in order to be adjustable. Have you tried to move the arm covers up so they engage the roof rather that pop it up? Also, did you replace the seal such that the roof doesn't seat down as much?

I did just replace the seal which is how I saw the old covers were cracked and no longer stable. And yes, the sunroof sits up a bit higher now as the seal doesn't compress down like the old one yet. I actually used a Porsche part for the seal as well as the new covers. The arms used to clear the end of the old covers a bit more so when they reversed to locking position, there was no contact with the tip of the slot.

Found a solution to my problem. Returned the Porsche branded parts that were molded slightly differently than my original 1986 covers and went with the 3D printed lift arm covers at https://www.etsy.com/listing/1593451005 ... ht-sunroof. Perfect fit and operated properly without any additional fitting/adjusting on my part. Simply installed them and they worked! The photo shows the 3D printed part on the right versus the original Porsche OEM replacement part on the left.

I just replaced mine with cheapo 3D printed parts and, after a little screw hole elongation and some minor filing/trimming for a perfect fit, they work great! Only time will tell how long they last but so far so good.
