Ouch!! Glad it didn't hit anything - you certainly dodged a bullet.

Was that a new storm or blow from last night or was it just from weakened roots/tree from all the recent downpours and wind?

Probably a combination of things. We've had back-to-back-to-back heavy rain/wind storms, and the tree doesn't look that healthy -- shallow roots, brittle branches, lots of moss, etc. We have a camera on the yard, and can see that it took half the night to slump over. No sudden crash. It leaned over about 45 degrees over the course of the night, and then took about a minute to go from that all the way to the ground.

‘Glad it didn’t hit anything. Clearly, California doesn’t do well with a lot of rain.😥

That makes perfect sense. I'm relatively good with trees and when I saw your picture this morning I thought the same thing regarding the weak-looking almost non existent roots, the branch structure, the moss - it all added up.

Was that a Hackberry? It looks like one but if so I didn't realize they were common in that part of the country, although I don't know why I'd think that since they'll grow anywhere. Hackberry trees are actually just big weeds (and they propagate just like weeds) and are notorious for falling over in the way yours did - the (sometimes) slow topple.
