battery cut off

I'm looking for a battery cut off for my 86 944 turbo.
I've tried three already:

- https://www.amazon.nl/-/en/Battery-Shut ... 95&sr=8-11

-> This one doesn't really fit very well

https://www.amazon.nl/-/en/HuaLiSiJi-Ba ... 95&sr=8-33

-> This type seems to fail after a while; because the lower part gets misaligned when decoupling it, the threads are at high risk of being crossed, leading to premature failure

Ideally, I would find a high quality example of the latter type. I don't want to weld anything in the car or have a complicated set up.

This (https://www.amazon.nl/-/en/Z6YP/dp/B094 ... 95&sr=8-40) could be another option but I'm not sure how safe it is.

The examples you gave all look fairly standard to ones I've seen. The 2nd one might be the best even though you feel it might fail prematurely. As you said, it fits. It's a fairly typical design, so unless the manufacturing is just really cheap - ie: poorly made Chinese copy-cat crap - then it might be the best of the three. If it works and even if it only lasts a couple of years, it's inexpensive enough that replacement every few years is not a problem.

There may be better made ones but finding one could take a bit of searching along with trial and error.

Check out Summit Racing. They have hundreds of switches, literally, including a Moroso (better) version the style you like best. To Tim's point, the Amazon ones are likely cheap knock-offs of this:

I love Summit Racing and have had an account for 15 or more years - I can't believe I didn't think of mentioning that. Bad brain...

Thanks Tom!

The Moroso brand is good.

These look exactly the same as the ones on Amazon, so I'm not getting my hopes up... But am willing to try

The design is of the fairly standard type, so the hope is that the Moroso is made with better materials. But you're right, you won't know until you give it a try.

The reviews for the top-post disconnect that Tom linked are good. (I'm assuming you need a top post disconnect.)

Maybe a good auto parts store near where you live has something that you can look at and inspect - can see where its made, judge the quality, etc.

I'm wondering whether it would be possible to helicoil a cheap amazon top post disconnect so that the threads are stronger.... But the two metal pieces are fairly thin so not sure a helicoil can be used.

I had the same experience, thought mine was a cheaply made example. I don't have any experience with a good one unfortunately.
