Hi. Has anybody had experience with the Fister mufflers? https://fdmotorsports.net/shop/ols/prod ... dification
My understanding is that they are roughly equal to PSE without the cutoff valves. I'm particularly interested in how they sound while cruising at 70-80 mph compared to stock. Is there any/much droning? Thanks.
Fister exhaust
No drone with Fisters . My 996 C4 has a 3.8 engine with aftermarket headers , catless x-pipe and Fister modified mufflers . It is aggressive when on the throttle but tame when taking it easy or cruising .
I have driven many with Fister mufflers , with OEM headers and cats they are not as aggressive but still sound good . In my opinion hard to go wrong . I just wish the OEM mufflers weren't so heavy .

Awesome product. I had these installed over 5 years ago on my daily driver, 1999 996.1 manual cab, and I am very pleased. They make the 3k-5k range vastly more entertaining, and some recent summer tours I did for 3 to 6 hour stretches, the exhaust was never a problem to our middle-age ears. Engine start up is exciting, idle is good, the 2k-2.8k range isn't superb although I rarely find my engine staying in that range even for my numerous, daily, 5-10 minute drives. I planned to have local shops do the "Gundo" hack but they declined saying they'd learned in prior years that their welds did not hold up. I discovered Fister, he laughed and said he'd made over 4,500 units and no one had complained his work did not hold up. When I drove a 997.1 manual cab as a potential upgrade to my 996.1, after 30 minutes of canyon drives I realized I could not detect anything that was better for the $20k price difference, and the superior sound of my Fister exhaust vs 997.1 base exhaust was a notable part of that. Oh, it does make hearing the VarioCam changes at higher-revs harder to discern.

Thanks guys. I'm taking the car in tomorrow for the install. Can't wait.
@Weisberg Nice review. Interesting what you say about the change in Variocam sound. I don't detect much sound change with the stock cans, just the pull. I wonder if it's the cab vs hard top. Good to hear about the 997. Perhaps not surprising as I've read that a good bit of the updating went into the interior and refining the body site lines.

To follow up, I had the Fister cans installed and couldn't be happier. On acceleration the car has a nice soft rasp in the car, and a bit more aggressive outside, while at cruising speed they are unnoticeable from stock. Can't recommend them enough!

Fantastic! It's great to get real-world feedback that others here can use. Thanks for the follow up.Tom_N wrote: Fri Nov 17, 2023 6:55 pm To follow up, I had the Fister cans installed and couldn't be happier.
