Wow! That one blue/orange car looks all squirrely before anything happened. I'll have to look for more Indy racing on TV. Pretty amazing tech. The cockpit video is like a real life video game -- got to get it up on the big screen!

Exciting goings on at this year's 107th running of the Indy 500. Final attendance tally expected to be at the 325,000 mark plus a huge TV audience.
What a wild drama-filled race, especially the last 20 laps or so. Wow! Three (!) red flags during the last 16 laps. Pit road chaos throughout the event, wild re-starts, throw-caution-to-the-wind racing, and so much more.
At the end our home town boy Josef Newgarden wins his first Indy 500, finally achieving the elusive victory for the two time IndyCar champ.
Formula-1 what? No comparison, at least not with the two races from each today. A.J Foyt had it right when he was recently quoted as saying "I wouldn’t cross the street to go watch a Formula 1 race."
The choice between the two is easy - this morning's dull, predictable, boring F1 race at Monaco vs. what we just witnessed at Indy. Night and day. There were 52 lead changes and reportedly over 500 passes at at Indy today. Lead changes at F1 Monaco? Haha. The overtakes/passes at today's F1? Maybe four (4) If the average for that venue holds.
Final unofficial results for today's 500:
1 Josef Newgarden
2 Marcus Ericsson
3 Santino Ferrucci
4 Alex Palou
5 Alexander Rossi
6 Scott Dixon
7 Takuma Sato
8 Conor Daly
9 Colton Herta

Several crashes today with this one being the scariest. Check out the tire/wheel that flew over the 30' to 40' T2 catch fence. (Look closely at the 0:14 to 0:16 of the video.) It missed the grandstands and hit a parked car. Fortunately, no drivers or anyone else hurt but a tire going over the catch fence like that is an almost unthinkable result considering the size and design of the safety fencing at Indy and the safety features of the cars (tethers on all wheels). Apparently the tether was severed in a freakish set of events.

I'm glad no one was hurt, that tire incident could have been tragic. The last dozen laps I got the feeling everyone had checked their brains at the door, some really stupid moves. I guess the red mist combined with the dollar signs for the winner got the best of many. Congrats to Newgarden and The Captain, well deserved win.
