I recently bought a 2004 911 40 Jahre. It now has 80k miles. Compared to my last car, a S2000 that had a very snappy shifter, the 911 is plain sloppy. Without resorting to a shift kit is there anything like bushings or cable adjustments that can improve the stock item?

Have you driven another 996's to compare? I'm wondering if you were just spoiled by the S2000 shifter, which I've heard is about as good as it gets....Tom_N wrote: Wed Sep 20, 2023 6:39 pm I recently bought a 2004 911 40 Jahre. The 996 uses plastic bushings which get sloppy with age . There are many aftermarket vendors that offer upgrades . I have a 99 996 C4 with 150k . The shifter when I bought it was as sloppy as a crack whore .
I installed the Function First shift kit . It is considered one of the better kits out there . All metal and real bearings . Not hard to install . Shifter movement is now butter smooth . It is not a short shifter so the throws are the same .
Just my opinion but when everything is perfect with the 996 it still won't be as good as the Honda . For a variety of reasons . But it can be greatly improved . This is the kit I installed .
