Hello Collective,
I'm looking for ideas on what the problem is with my brand new Intrac 1K2 coilovers. From the start the front coilovers have been a headache.
A few months ago I decided, unfortunately, to cancel a KWV3 order for my 88 951 and ordered an Intrax 1K2 setup with the Titan coating option. I spoke to Donald at length on the phone, via email and Whatsapp, answered his questions so the engineers could "customize" the setup for me. I merely wanted a street/canyon carver setup with an eye on maybe next year trying my hand at the track to learn how to drive properly. After about two months and close to 6,000.00 CDN in price of the coilovers, duties and shipping, my Intrax 1K2 setup was installed and from the first day I had a bad sound from the front that did not sound like springs breaking in. Long story short, both front springs were rubbing on housing assemblies. Intrax wants to blame the installer and is “willing” to send me 70mm ID springs so any bowing of the springs during compression won’t hit the assemblies again. I asked why would it be the springs and not the coilovers themselves and the reply from Donald was that they were tested before shipping so they’re fine. It also doesn’t make sense to send bigger ID springs if their standard is 60mm and that is what these were "customized" to accept. I told Donald it only makes sense to send two new front complete coilovers. Yeah, that didn’t fly. I was offered new springs so I’m supposed to repair them myself, on my dime, and when it’s time to overhaul them they’ll do so at no cost. Not sure how I'm supposed to feel good about that since a rebuild won't be necessary for years.
Someone on one of the FB 944 pages said that the clearance on my springs is really tight, and I agree. He has the 1K2 as well but with ARC and his springs are 70mm from Intrax, so not sure why mine are 60mm. I didn't request this, they set them up like this based on my answers to their questions.
How Intrax has addressed this is pretty pathetic. I am left with a terrible taste in my mouth and I really wish I went with KWV3.
1. What could possibly cause something like this?
2. Do you have Intrax and if so, what ID are your springs?
3. I'm not an expert on suspension company customer service but I am an expert in customer service in general and usually the solution is to "get it done" with the idea of just getting a new replacement product out to the customer so they are taken care of. Is this normal operating procedure for these kinds of companies?
This was an issue from the start and I was in communication with Donald from the first week I had these. Unfortunately the company was closed for a month when I received them but I was still sending messages via Whatsapp and email to Donald with some replies, but nothing tangible till everyone was back at work. Now Donald is blaming me for saying my car isn't stock when I told him it is. It only had Elephant Racing sport rubber bushings front to back, which he was aware of from the design stage along with the specs of my wheels. He then tried to blame the installer, who has installed hundreds of Porsche suspensions, and then said that sending new units is not going to happen because they "tested the shocks before they were shipped".
Thanks in advance for any ideas you can share.
