I am going to give Anthony at 9xx a shot at activating the hd matrix lights on my cayenne. It has been approved in the us but has not been activated as of yet. Has anyone done anything similar?

Late last year at some point after US approval was announced for lights such as Porsche's PDLS+ HD Matrix system, I asked the PNA regional service rep if current Porsche vehicles would receive a software update/release and he told me straight out that there were no current plans and no guarantee when or even if the lights on already delivered vehicles would be activated due to regulatory hurdles and approvals that would still be needed from NHTSA. I keep hoping that will change. Maybe the news will be better on cars coming into country going forward.

The system is pretty awesome as designed and I'd love to have it activated so please let us know how the 9xx activation goes if you follow through with them.

Thanks for the links, especially the Porsche Newsroom article from last December - quite informative!

@blueline Hi Tim,
I’m a bit confused. My 2022 718 GTS 4.0 supposedly has the PDLS+ system. Is it not activated?
Thx
Larry

No. None of our cars have the full system activated due to ancient, archaic and ridiculous headlight restrictions from NHTSA. Those restrictions were finally lifted/updated and brought into modern times last year but as I understand it, each product line will have to be evaluated and approved by NHTSA individually before approval (much like crash testing). The cost will be enormous so it's delayed for the time being and maybe forever for already delivered cars.

However, I will always stipulate the system if configuring a new car because the lighting system does offer improvements even if not at full capabilities. They'll be ready should Porsche ever get past NHTSA and offer the software activation. Plus they look good!

I feel Porsche is the leader in advanced headlight technology so I'd certainly like to take advantage of it. They are on both the Turbo S and our Cayenne, just waiting for activation!

I forgot - but I have PDLS+ on the GT4 too. I keep hoping to hear something positive from Porsche but am not holding my breath.

I'm definitely interested in how Mojonito's experience with Anthony Wong at 9XX turns out. You might want to watch the short video produced after successfully activating their first Porsche.

Also, the Porsche Newsroom article that Mojonito linked is pretty informative (awesome info, actually) with things like this: "The core element of the innovation created in collaboration with partners is a chip that combines over 16,000 individually controllable micro-LEDs onto the surface area the size of a thumbnail."

Here's the Porsche Newsroom link again -

Was at dealership today and the consensus is that we'll likely never see activation for PDLS+ for cars already delivered, at least not via activation from Porsche. Not sure if new cars being delivered now have some variation of the system but maybe not? If anyone has info on that, please post it.

9XX indicates on their website that they are an authorized Porsche partner - they offer several different digitally oriented products, but they appear to be a closed type of company. One has to sign up for a "tour" that is done annually for upgrades (2023 is sold out), must do a Microsoft Teams on-air meeting first, etc. I also get the sense that the PDLS+ activation system is proprietary for them and a little bit involved. I'm hoping that Mojonito has a positive outcome with them.

Again, if anyone has more and better info, please, please share it. I would love to be able enjoy the marvel that Porsche's PDLS+ lighting appears to be.

Tim,
Thanks for the information. Sometimes dealing with PNA is like playing darts on a rocking boat.
