What is that thing

Hi folks,
Can I get some help identifying the part on the picture?
That's on an 84 944. I would like to replace it, as it's holding on for dear life.

O2 sensor? Orange jacket goes right to it I bet. Two white wires to whatever bias for the heater (prolly just +12v). Harness is already cut up for that (white wire) connector, can't hurt to re-do the sense line as well.
As a bit of an aside: Kinda boggles my mind they didn't just plumb a ground reference along as well. That signal's gotta be noisy as hell (and it's not a huge voltage either)!

You are spot on.
I had some time today to go under the car and check where that wire was going. So the orange connector, is part of the DME harness I'm afraid, can I just solder those the sensor and the green wire?
Or any idea where I could find the right connector without changing the e tire harness?

I'm not familiar with the early harness so much...maybe someone else will weigh in. But it looks like a bog standard bullet connector with the housing failing. Could find a new one and crimp it on, or try to replace the housing in situ (printed, maybe?).
I wouldn't just solder directly between the harness and the O2 sensor, there's a connector for a reason

Fair point

Found a
replacement, but it's quite expensive for what it is, 3d printing it in TPU could be an option.

oh, it is shielded! I guess I my mind needn't be so boggled after all. And yes, Kroon stuff ain't cheap.
And yes, I bet a two piece TPU print would go great here! That's probably where I'd settle, personally.
