When I had a 991.2 I did this and many people bought them and did as I did, which was to replace the silver trim ring on the steering wheel with a black one. I lost my source to get these but I found another albeit I have to buy at least 25. Here is what it looks like after I painted it satin black. You would have to remove the one on your steering wheel, which will be destroyed since it is a single-use part, and replace it with what I am getting. You can paint, or have it painted, any color you prefer. I had the one on my Targa GTS painted Miami Blue (along with many other parts) but as I said I opted for satin black this time since Yellow is too loud to have too much of it, even for me! They are $40 each, which includes shipping. The last time I procured these I had to get the entire airbag cover, which cost $75, so this time, after a lot of negotiating and pleading, I got just the trim ring to save money. These will fit late model Porsches, Audis, and possibly others.

Installation is very easy, 5 minutes or less. Since many have asked, here is what the back of the OEM trim ring looks like when it is removed. To start just put a piece of painter's tape at the edge of the trim ring (to protect the cover) and slide a jewelers screwdriver or anything thin under it so it raises up - you will have to move it left or right to get between tabs. As I said, it is rubbery so it will flex up, and when it does grab it with needlenose pliers and pull - that is it. If you go slow you may get it off intact (but not reusable since it distorts, etc.) but if not just grab the end where it snapped and pull again until it is all out. The new one has tabs that are rigid and squared-off so they will press fit in.

My email for Paypal is [email protected] If you wish to pay another way please PM me, and don't forget to include your shipping address.

Bob, are these for 991.2 steering wheels? Or 718? or both? And do you know if they'd fit a 992? Any add'l info on removing the factory ring and whether the replacement will be as secure as the original?

I know they will fit the 718 and 991.2 cars since I replaced them on both, but I am not sure about 992s.

And yes, they are just as secure and based on the way the airbag detonates it will not be a projectile since there is fine line at the top and bottom, which is where it splits in an accident (see pic). And they also fit Macans, Cayennes, etc. If someone wants to be sure they are 3 1/2" in diameter.
