Hi All,

Shark Motorsport in Germany makes this short shift linkage to fit the 968 trans. According to Frank at Shark this reduces the side-to-side lateral throw ~ 30% and the front-to-back longitudinal throw ~ 45%. The current pricing is 193 Euro, but I have inquired about a group purchase as I know a few others that are interested. Here are a couple of pictures.

Except this will not work with the 944 fuel tank. The 968 tank has a recess in this area to give enough volume for the movements of that piece. I spent hours trying to make one of these fit to no avail, even tried with different rod lengths.

So Thom, you've installed a 968 trans in a 951 and this short shift kit will not fit... but a stock Porsche one will?

Yes, the stock 968 gear linkage works with the 944 fuel tank.

So, Frank at Shark Motorsport says he has several customers with 944s with the 968 trans conversion that are successfully using his short shift kit, so if you did not use this exact same kit then maybe that's the issue?

For a group order of 5 kits, we can get a 15% discount.

A friend of mine put some shims at the transmount which lowered it enough to make it work with 944 tank and 968 trans with shortshift. The enginemounts will absorb the extra "angle"

Just a idea.

Well, this is the exact kit I used. I also drove a 968 with this kit and although it worked the shifting was awkward, like the grill was not an H anymore but a W instead, if that makes sense.

Admittedly this kit was designed for use in a 968 so I cannot blame them if it does not work with a 944 but I have spent/wasted enough time trying to make it work with my 944 and at this stage am just not interested in going any further and happy enough with the stock 968 shifter.

I have another 968 SSK on a shelf, made by a short-lived company called "944 Racing" IIRC. I bought it used and I have not tried to install it yet but I do not think it will fit either. I will check.

I don't see how the shift pattern could be anything other than an H since the 1-2, 3-4 and 5-6 shifts are only done via straight front to rear movement of the gear shift lever.

I am not sure but the problem may come from how the movements were studied as this is how the gear lever had to be moved to change gears.
