Another tidbit from my Porsche pursuit journal....

Soulful automatic? (Sept 25, 2020)

Ok, so the PDK is pretty impressive acceleration-wise. We know because we got the chance to drive a Cayman S PDK @ Porsche Ottawa today. This time we had a better route plan, and there was less traffic.

What to say about the shifts? Pretty mind-boggling when you think about what's going on inside that gearbox. It really bangs through the gears rapidly and the car is quick, quick, quick.

Has Andrew pondering PDK but to my mind, I'll always go manual. I’m not chasing the 100% performance edge, and it definitely does 'feel' faster, but the engagement of shifting yourself and the satisfaction of proper downshifts…well, I wouldn’t want to give that up. That's a bit of the soul of a sports car - that hand/foot coordination.

Especially because the manual seems as good as the S2000's, which to me is the benchmark - at least of all my experiences.

Tough Choice, and I respect whatever option the buyer goes with. I have PDK in my build. Would love to have one of each 😎

I recently trashed the cartilage in my left knee, and suddenly appreciated the PDK in my 992 more than ever. Took several weeks and a cortisone shot to get back to the point where I could barely drive my 951 around the neighborhood to keep the battery charged and tires round, etc. PDK is unquestionably faster, but for outright fun, it's hard to beat a manual transmission.
