I have a 1999 Carrera with both of the original keys, but they need refurbishing. I actually tried one of the repair kits, but my soldering skills are not up to par, and even with new batteries the buttons to lock/unlock don't function. The previous owner even said "these keys really eat up batteries" - so I think they were starting to fail back then.
SO: Does anyone on the forum know of a vendor that repairs the electronics for the older keys? Any leads are appreciated. They blade part of the key still locks/unlocks the car, so this is not a mission-critial thing -- but I'd like to have them fixed.
Thanks to all.

If it's just the micro switch like in the video below, you would just need to find someone handy with a soldering iron. Do you have the switch? If so, I'd be inclined to take it to a laptop repair place or the like and ask them to pop it in. If it's more complicated than that, I haven't come across anyone known for fixing them per se, but I'm sure they are out there. If it just like in this video, I'd also be happy to do it for you, though not sure if the risk and cost of shipping to and from California is worth it?

I've tried the above. Still have some of the kit parts. My hands no longer have the dexterity for this kind of work, but the laptop repair shop or even a radio repair place is a good idea. I had not thought of that. There's an outstanding ham radio repair guy in town that can probably help me out. Thanks for prodding my memory!

Ham radio guy sounds perfect. You just need a guy with a soldering iron and this attitude...

Really. I remember that show. It broke my heart to see them smash up that car. Hopefully it was a clever mock-up.
