Interior carbon fiber

I’ve posted this elsewhere but thought I’d look for any response here, as a new member. Hope that’s ok.

I’ve spent a lot of time in and around Porsche and other sports cars over the year, but never really paid much attention to the interior trim. My dealer tells me that I need to spec the carbon fiber trim if I don’t go with the wood or leather option. He was shocked when I didn’t find much fault with the standard black plastic. “No one picks the basic black”. To his credit he did say more than once that it’s my car and choose what I like, but the message was clearly there. I don’t think he’s upselling as he talked me out of a couple of other options. Plus we’re talking chump change in the overall context.

I can’t recall what N Murray said about the CF interior, nor much of anything mentioned elsewhere in other YT videos or written recommendations. But I don’t think he made much of it. I’ll have to go back and look.

Dealer also said to pick exterior glossy black window trim (which I do remember Murray pooh-poohing) over the standard flat black. Re chrome: “No one picks the chrome trim which looks dated and old fashioned”. Said same about STS pipes. And wanted me to chose the Carrera S or 911 rear decal in black. This after I told him I wasn’t into the murdered black look at all.

Would appreciate forum’s advice here, at least for any trends or what goes best together. I completely get it that we all have different tastes and ultimately I’m going to pick what I like.

I’m starting, for now, with the 2CS in agate grey (also looking at arctic grey) and Bordeaux leather. Dealer also said to pick combo black option with black dashboard and red leather as the red dashboard causes lots of glare in the sun.

Thx. Jon

Hi Jon and welcome to Carpokes!! My reaction to this and the Bordeaux dash post are essentially the same. I tend to be a bit jaded about dealers (until I get to know/trust one), so consider the source. That said, I experienced a little of this when I ordered my '18 991. After befriending my sales guy, I came to learn that dealers have a vested interest in having their customers order cars that are easy to sell. Since the buyer isn't legally obligated to buy the car at the time of order, the dealership wants to make sure it is not ordering a some oddly spec'd car it can't sell. That's not to say all salesmen are being disingenuous, but for something like this, it's just purely a personal choice. The dealer is correct that CF is popular these days -- and I must say it has gotten better looking over the years -- but it's not for everyone as the primary trim inside. I spec'd black leather and much prefer it myself. I say get what you want. You're buying the car for yourself, not a focus group. :)
