So any thoughts on swapping one of these into a 944?

My father got a bunch of these for an aviation project, if you picked one up you'd swear you picked up the display model. It's THAT light.

This is about 1/10th of a stock battery.
So how about some actual weight savings instead of weight shavings.

Well, you are in good company thinking those would be good batteries for a Porsche. When you first mentioned it this morning, I started wondering about my 992 lithium battery and, sure enough, it is a Lithium Iron Phosphate battery!

Watching with interest! I have seen the other forum discuss them before but they are always a compromise, like they're a motorcycle battery for a track car or weekend car, have to use battery tenders, etc, but the tech gets better every day.

I have documented and shipped a lot of DG by air over the last 20 yrs. Tom, 792 wh's is pretty damn healthy. The most powerful LiFePO4 I've ever shipped was four 488 wh drone batteries from Scott Base, Antarctica to NZ. The limit per battery by air is 160 wh IIRC so I needed high-level waivers to permit carriage.

My concern is still about that voltage amount. Do you think with a new alternator and a harness the voltage amount could be changed and increased a bit so it's better for the battery? Concerned since it wants close to 15v, more picky than a lead acid or AGM would be.
What is the voltage the 992 puts out is another good question

Not an expert by any means, but I think that's why '12 volt' lithium car batteries have the complicated Battery Management System (BMS) built into them. I learned the hard way with my 992 that, inside the battery, there is a full-on computer/processor that manages the lithium batteries inside. If the charge gets too low, it just cuts off all connection to the batteries inside, in addition to managing the charging process. Lithium batteries without protection from a BMS are not well-suited to the auto charging system, based on everything I've seen -- partly for the reason you bring up. They also don't like heat very much, so my rear-engine 992 is probably a better environment for a lithium battery than the engine compartment of a 944. Needless to say, there are companies marketing Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries for cars, including some that fit the 944, but they are not cheap, and some in my opinion are little more than salesy-middlemen with questionable ethics. Take a look at the lithium batteries sold by Summit Racing. They have several group 48 lithium batteries set up for automotive use, and they ship straight from the supplier...

I've had these on my radar for a while, and have the same questions and concerns. I have done as much reading as I can about it and nothing is conclusive, to me. Antigravity markets what look to be some nice options but it's...a lot of money.

I guess that if one could make a less expensive alternative work, but was worried about the heat, the battery can be relocated to the rear, as was done for UK (and maybe other markets) cars. I hadn't considered that aspect of things, so I'm glad that @Tom brought it up.

I don't necessarily want to re-live it all here, but if you google Antigravity and FTC, or search for the same on RL, you may see why I have a poor opinion of that company and its business ethics.

Have you tried the new battery yet?

It's still on the to-do list. I'm borrowing the 924S battery right now in the S2, so once the 924S is done it'll be.
Which is sooner, rather than later.
I actually bought the next car project today...

Thanks for the tip! The NOCO batteries on Summits website look like a good deal for the money.
