Right now, each Amercan - every citizen, plus every illegal, plus every baby, kid and teenager, owes nearly $100K in government debt. Excess spending has saddled us with a multi-generational problem, which we have not yet begun to fix - it is estimated that, at current rates of expenditure, federal government debt will increase by $5 billion EVERY DAY FOR THE NEXT DECADE.

It’s the future that bothers me… most of us have seen so much over the past 30-40yrs… can it get worse? But it always seems to progressively get worse.

Both sides of the aisle are guilty and can't bring themselves to cut spending, they ignore the future just to get re-elected. It's all about power and money. ICE is just the latest "enemy" to be defeated so those two things can increase.

These topics are always on that political fence line.

I'm not intending to get political here, but its sometimes hard not to. I think the general agreement on the ICE/EV discussion is that they are great for some folks, terrible for others, and should be given a chance but not be crammed down every car owner's throat. Government subsidies, be they for cars, sugar or steel, in general create more problems than they solve, but that's the world we live in. In an ideal world, we would all have an EV for around town and short commuting, and a very clean ICE or ICE/hybrid for long trips and canyon carving. Technology can be partially driven by government mandates but mandates cannot create something that doesn't exist or is impossible to achieve.

From a purely intellectual standpoint, it will be interesting to stand back and watch how this all plays out, but we don't live in a Utopia or a purely intellectual world and both our tax dollars and our progeny are involved in this process, so we assess the pros and cons and take sides.

The same folks that rail against the national debt also seem to want to starve the government of tax revenues. Lowering revenues when we're in the red??? Brilliant! Enough of the political ranting!!! So much for a kinder, friendlier Porsche forum.

You never came across as political at all… this thread has been handled very adult like… but your right, a portion of this thread sadly stems back to that other subject… America has always been about choice and slowly but surely that’s changed

@aboyandhisdog - "You wrote: "The same folks that rail against the national debt also seem to want to starve the government of tax revenues. Lowering revenues when we're in the red??? Brilliant!?" When was the last time the fed'l gov't was starved for revenues? It's always been the opposite - too much taxpayer cash flowing through agencies of questionable purpose and merit. The issue is overspending. We need political will in Washington to reduce spending, and hopefully, in part, by reducing the glut of unnecessary three letter agencies. Legislation via bureaucrats is a huge part of our problem, costing Amercans lost value from their tax dollars, lost use of their own land, immense legal fees, harm from fines, and distress from taxation without representation. The EPA is a sterling example, and they are pushing EV's hard, irrespective of what most of the country thinks. Remember - they never stand for any elections, and their employees and management survive successive political administrations.

But we ARE kinder and friendlier. :) Can't imagine what this thread would look like on Reddit or one of the back-room forums on other car sites. But yeah, the problem with politics is that it's like an invasive weed. If you don't hit it with a little Round-Up every now and then, it can take over the whole garden and make it look awful. Let's not do that.

My local PCA, the rants happen fast and they get scolded pretty quickly
Of course a lot of what we’re talking about is political, but like tons of their past mistakes usually get watered down… everyone wants a quick fix without thinking of the big picture sometimes, that goes for any subject
