2023 F1 season is finished. Max Verstappen won the season's final race at Abu Dhabi, crossing the finish line 17.9 seconds ahead of runner up Charles Leclerc - an eternity. That was Verstappen's 19th win of the season (out of the total 22 F1 races in 2023.) He was on the podium on two of the three races that he didn't win. I t doesn't get more dominating than that.

I think F1 has become so euro centric that adding an American driver, much less a team is a ways off. They like the money that comes from US races but still disrespect the US and fans. IMHO....

I couldn't agree more, we're a bunch of philistines who like (American) football and NASCAR to them, unsophisticated and uncouth. JMO. But as you say, they'll still take our money(eagerly).

Life is often funny , as I have some friends in Europe who think F1 is becoming very Americanized and going away from what they think the roots of F1 are ( Europe ). I think what is happening is the World is becoming more fascinated by F1, we definitely are talking about it more ( positive or negative ), and often that is a sign of growth for any sport ----- Football, Basketball, racing ,etc.
It is common now for Nascar, IndyCar and other racing venues to have Bands and other entertainment at the track and F1 has followed that lead. We see plenty of young Trackrats going to events like Gridlife and when we ancient ones think about it, they may be the ones who are the new generation of Gearheads. I often hear my contemporaries complain that the current generation does not care about cars, but then I see the spread of various track events and note many of the new drivers at PCA DEs or NASA HPDE, etc. are younger and maybe these are the new group of Petrolheads that will keep the fun automotive genre going? Sorry , a bit off the original subject.

The December edition has a superb article that outlines why Red Bull was so superior. Basically, the 2003 car superficially looked quite a lot like the 2022 version. At least on top. This hid a huge reengineering design of the car, in particular to the floor, which is why RB never had the porpoising issue. The competition only realized this when Perez crashed in Monaco and they got a look at the flor when the car was raised up. The RB floor is massively complex compared to anyone else. Here are two illustrations published in the article:

Fascinating complexity. It so advanced that I can no longer tell where the sport and the skill of driving intersect with that of the AI level engineering and design. There must be massive computing assets behind every team's program. I guess Red Bull has access to more advanced super computers - underground mad scientists! Do the reduced wind tunnel test times for teams as they land higher up the ranked ladder even matter? I tend to think not so much.

RB have a lot of computers but they also have a genius.
Adrian Newey is the greatest designer in F1 history in my view, and if you look at his career he has designed for multiple teams and has more winning cars than anyone.
His ability to see the slightest hole in the regulations is unmatched.
