I'd agree that a Cobb tune, especially on a non-turbo car, is pretty safe and unlikely to cause problems. If/when they develop a CA-legal tune for my 992 Turbo, I will be mighty tempted....

That said, having read the published warranty terms for the US market, a Cobb tune would only be covered by the factory warranty if Porsche authorized it in writing as contemplated in that warranty. For the most part, what's in writing would control the issue if Porsche opted to challenge a claim.

(p.s., in other words, assurances from dealers, tuners, people in know, etc. should all be taken with a grain of salt unless they can point to Porsche's written approval.)

What's the concern with the tune being CA-legal? Smog-ability? I thought the COBB tune can be reversed at any time via the handheld unit

It's been a while since I lived in CA. But I think it's related to CARB and Cobb's ability to sell/distribute their units in California. Yes, you can remove the tune and restore a "factory" tune through the handheld unit. But the solution needs to go through the California Air Resources Board process to be approved for CA residents. The CARB process is expensive and a pain in the butt, from what I understand.
