And now it has officially sunk. So very sad.

Now we will never know how the fire originated. Personally, I was interested to know if a Lithium-ion battery was the source of the initial fire.

Did anything come of your homeowners meeting re lithium fire safety? My wife is all but determined to get the Subaru ev, so if there's anything we can add while adding a charging station, I'm inclined to add it...

We first contacted our Fire Marshall for advice and requested our Fire District's recommended procedure in the event of a Lithium-ion battery pack fire within the parking garage below our high-rise building. After checking with his Administration we received a copy of the Procedure which Identifies Operational Tactics for Safe Handling of Motor Vehicle Fires. The procedure was adopted in 2016 and updated in May 2019. To Quote: "FIRE ATTACK Hybrid/ElectricCars—Do not delay initial fire attack on an energized car, but use extreme caution to avoid shock hazards. If the location of the main battery disconnect can be determined, and accessed safely, isolate the battery bank." That's it - nothing more. He then said they just keep dousing it with water which we all agreed will not extinguish the fire.

We have a total of 150 cars parked in our garage during the height of season with a growing number of EV's and Hybrid's with every passing season. Our garage is fully fire sprinkler protected but, has a low ceiling which would contribute to any flame spread. We are seriously concerned if any of the Lithium-ion battery packs were ignited (directly or indirectly) and contributed to a chain reaction and spread to surrounding vehicles and potential structural damage to the building.

We are currently considering a ban on parking any EV's and Hybrid's in the garage below our building. We would require parking in one of our designated outside parking spaces for which we would have to add a power source for charging.

It's on the agenda for our next full BOD meeting. Will let you know.

Interesting. Back when the Felicity Ace caught fire and sank, in my mind I was 99% convinced that an EV was the cause of the blaze but figured we'd never know. Now with this news, I'm curious as to how they made that determination.
