I believe the change took place with all 992 models

2021 has USB A, ‘22 went to USB C. C carries more current and is smaller. I bought some A to C converters for my ’21, but the output is only 5 watts. USB C is the future.

@Norville
Absolutely concur on the USB C as being the future comment. Anything new coming out without "C" is basically obsolete upon its release. (I guess that's a bit harsh, but true nevertheless!)

My 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera was an early 992. It did have the older 991 UBS-B system. I forgot the factory production date (the car is gone), but it was late 2019.Norville wrote: Mon Dec 05, 2022 4:19 pm2021 has USB A, ‘22 went to USB C. C carries more current and is smaller. No problem, I just ordered the UBS-C to Lightening (the iPhone) cable from Amazon. $10 and same day delivery.
My current 2023 Porsche 911 has a 10/22 build date on the door. The My Porsche account said the build date was 10-23-22.

That is also what I read. Does the new iPhone 14 have the smaller USB? I still have an iPhone 11.audi4t wrote: Mon Dec 05, 2022 4:39 pmPlus Apple will be forced to go micro usb instead of lightning due to European regulations standardizing device connections..

Not yet - I just changed to an iPhone 14 pro and it still uses the lightning connector. I believe the European usb c mandate for all devices came down earlier this year, The reason being to standardize connections, minimize waste and avoid consumers having to buy multiple cords and connectors.

I have a huge drawer full of old cords and cables. I counted 22 from previous devices. I think the first was ~1979 with MS-DOS and then Windows 94 (1994, I assume?). Then Apple had the Mac with the phones later (2006?). I had an iPhone 4.
I don't think Tesla and Porsche charging stations use the same cables?

There are adapters available that allow charging between models and stations911R wrote: Wed Dec 07, 2022 7:00 amThey are a little lateaudi4t wrote: Wed Dec 07, 2022 6:32 am...The reason being to standardize connections, minimize waste and avoid consumers having to buy multiple cords and connectors...

I can't see the tech as I look on Amazon:
A charging station, also known as a charge point or electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), is a piece of equipment that supplies electrical power for charging plug-in electric vehicles (including electric cars, electric trucks, electric buses, neighborhood electric vehicles, and plug-in hybrids).
There are two main types: AC charging stations and DC charging stations. Batteries can only be charged with direct current (DC) electric power, while most electricity is delivered from the power grid as alternating current (AC). For this reason, most electric vehicles have a built-in AC-to-DC converter, commonly known as the "onboard charger". At an AC charging station, AC power from the grid is supplied to this onboard charger, which produces DC power to charge the battery. DC chargers facilitate higher power charging (which requires much larger AC-to-DC converters) by building the converter into the charging station instead of the vehicle to avoid size and weight restrictions. The station then supplies DC power to the vehicle directly, bypassing the onboard converter. Most fully electric car models can accept both AC and DC power.
Charging stations provide connectors that conform to a variety of international standards. DC charging stations are commonly equipped with multiple connectors to be able to charge a wide variety of vehicles that utilize competing standards.
------
I am trying to get it simple. I got confused on UBS-B and UBS-C. I was in college business school (MBA) and not college technical electrical engineering school (MS).
A Porsche car can hook in at a Tesla charging place with an adapter? A Tesla can hook in a Porsche place with a different adapter? This seems fair to me. I know the fees will differ.
Can you explain this simply? You lost me quickly. A Porsche electric car can plug in a Tesla station with a simple adapter and the same each way?
