Beautiful cars. I’ve thought many times of owning a 928, but have always been nervous about their reputation for astronomical repair and maintenance expenses. I have total respect for those that are committed to them and embrace their unique place in the Porsche family of vehicles.

Welcome to Carpokes!
My early 928 ownership service experience had me in DIY mode soon after purchase. I had the tools and space so it was a pretty easy decision. Now 25+ years later, the supply of decent mechanical and diagnostic support from dealers and independents has all but dried up completely. My local dealer and a couple independents have my number, and use it when they get past head-scratching to hair-tearing.
That said, the 928 is an engineering and design tour de force. If you can work on a 80's period Mercedes, and have some decent diagnostic skills, the 928 will seem very familiar. There's still good parts support from several vendors. Of course, the example you find and its particular history will dramatically affect your ownership experience, so do your homework before you spend. Like any Porsche, there's no such thing as a cheap one, no matter how low the buy-in seems. Find a good one, treat it well. Simple as that.

There is a firm in Southern Ontario that caters to the 928. You can find them at

This would be my 1989 928GT. Amusingly, in my little town there is a nearly identical 928S4
